Imagine a ten-layered architectural jewel rising on a plateau. Pictures five hundred years of lifestyle, woken and restored so that the present could merge with it. This is the Neemrana Fort Palace, built in 1464 conveniently located just off the Delhi-Jaipur highway, Neemrana is Rajasthan's closest palace to India's capital. Today the property covers 10 hectares/25 acres.
The ideal time to visit Neemrana is in winters when the warm sun's rays filter in through the many nooks and crannies of the palace. Neemrana is not a place where you can come once and then forget about it. It has an impressive list of regulars who love returning again and again. Kate Winslet and Princess Sarah both came here twice declaring it as one of the most romantic places in the world.
You can take a short walk to the 18th century step well, stroll down to the quaint village to taste the real flavour of rural life and peep into the havelis, maybe even get to chat with some of the descendants of the royal family and their line of mantris or trek on the hillock at the back.
