Samode
A quaint Rajasthani village nestled among rugged hills, it has a
fairy tale like palace now running as a luxury hotel. There are few old havelis
having beautiful paintings. 40 kms north of Jaipur, on the Sikar highway.
Sambhar India's largest saltwater lake is
a
popular stop-over for migratory birds. West of Jaipur, on the Ajmer highway.
Abhaneri
A place of great ancient ruins dating more
than 1,000 years back - includes temples, excavations and superb step-wells.
Bairath
Connection to the Mahabharat age. Ruins of a
Buddhist temple and two rock edicts dating back to 3rd century BC.
Ramgarh
A large lake, serving as Jaipur's source of
water, has picturesque surroundings. Ideal picnic spot, has many ruined
temples and structures. 28 kms north-east of Jaipur, off the Delhi bypass.
Sanganer Textile printing is a household industry in
this large and well-known center for Hand block printed and screen-printed
fabrics. The unique designs and colors are typical of this town. The town also
has several factories of handmade paper in beautiful designs. There are a few
beautiful Jain temples too in the town. 16 kms south of Jaipur, near the
airport.
Bagru
Another town famous for textile printing, the
colors used here are more earthy. 35 kms west of Jaipur, on the Ajmer highway.
Tonk
Islamic influence over the town is visible in
the Sunehri Kothi of the Nawab which has stunningly beautiful gold painted
chambers. 90 kms south of Jaipur.
