Taj Mahal is JUST 1 of Agra's 3 UNESCO World Heritage Sites - India's hidden treasures unveiled!

Overview of Agra

Click here for our special section on the Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal The monuments of Agra bear testimony to the city's prominence and importance in medieval Indian history. The seat of power of the mighty Mughal empire, Agra personifies the Mughal passion for art and architecture in its majestic well-balanced buildings.

A city of monuments, Agra is the only place in India to have three UNESCO World Heritage Monuments - Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri and, of course, the Taj Mahal which makes it the country's most sought after tourist destination!

Besides its virtual treasure of incredibly preserved Mughal monuments, Agra also has the locational advantage of being known as Braj Bhoomi - the land where Lord Krishna was born and spent his childhood. Uncountable spots related to Krishna's lifestyle are dotted in the Braj land. Mathura, Vrindavan and Gokul are very popular with Krishna's devotees.

Agra's prominence in medieval era is also evident by the presence of other important bastions in close proximity like Gwalior and Bharatpur. Easy accessibility with New Delhi and Jaipur also contribute to its popularity.
