Perched on the edge of the Great Thar Desert in the heart of rural India, the unique fort at Khimsar offers a wide range of experiences. The construction of the fort began in 1523 AD by Rao Karamsiji in the fairytale land of majestic forts and palaces. The fort's battle-scarred walls and turrets are a tell-tale reminder of Khimsar's glorious past. A section of the fort still remains the residence of the royal family of Khimsar.

There are 50 air-conditioned rooms and suites. The restaurant serves Indian, Continental and Rajasthani cuisines. Visit the inhouse, ancestral museum of miniature paintings and family memorabilia. The piece de resistance at Khimsar is a candle lit dinner set in the ancient ruins of Fateh Mahal where the reverberating sound of drums and folk dances mingles with the warmth of bonfire that lights the central dome.

Ride into the village or the countryside on horse or camel back. Or if you so prefer, rent a bicycle. The village of Khimsar provides an excellent starting point to explore the district of Nagaur which lies midway between Jodhpur and Bikaner. Every year the Nagaur cattle fair draws hordes of tourists in the months of January and February.
